Fortunately, by this time of year most of the woodland creatures were grown-up enough to fly or scamper away to the adjacent wooded edges. [Not to fear, little critters! By next spring, there will be all sorts of beautiful landscaping and birdhouses for your new homes.]
Trees were cut, stacked and chipped for composting into mulch.
Stumps were dug up and hauled off for recycling.
Topsoil was scraped off and set aside for covering the ground again at the end.
The site was then leveled and smoothed for the next stage.
