"MULTIPLE-PET" QUESTIONS
How many pets can stay together?
The dog suites are large enough to easily accommodate 2 Labrador or 3-4 Dachshund-sized dogs. But if they're inseparable, 3 large-breed dogs could certainly stay together.
Each cat usually has its own two-story townhouse. For two friendly cats, portholes can be opened to join two townhouses together. If you want 3 cats to be together, they could comfortably share two joined townhouses.
Do I get a discount if multiple pets share a run?
No. Each pet is treated as an individual and receives the same amount of time and care from our staff. It can actually be more challenging to monitor appetite and other behaviors if multiple pets share a run.
What if I want my pets to be separate?
Since the cost is per pet you can have your pets separated however you wish- provided that there are enough boarding suites available at the time you make your reservation.
What if my pets need to be separated for eating?
We can move pets temporarily to our "Auxillary" ward (with large, glass-door, non-decorated runs) for an hour, at your pets' designated meal-time.

"ABOUT THE RUN" QUESTIONS
Can the beds be removed?
No. There is plenty of room for even our largest Mastiff dog boarder to lounge on the bed or on the floor. The beds are only a few inches off the ground, so even dogs with orthopedic conditions can go up and down safely and easily.
Can I bring my dog's own crate?
If you feel your dog is more comfortable in his own crate, feel free to bring it. But keep in mind the size of the crate and the available floor space. We cannot remove the beds. Also, some dogs become cage-possessive. If your dog refuses to come out of its crate for walks, or becomes aggressive when it needs to be taken from its crate, then we reserve the right to remove the crate from the run.
Can I bring my dog's own bedding?
We don't encourage this. Most dogs are quite content while boarding, and dogs get walked every 6 hours around the clock. But accidents happen- some dogs will urinate on their bed or tip over their water. We can easily monitor and change our bedding. But thicker, foam-filled bedding is not as easy to assess or launder as you might think. Some dogs also decide that now would be a good time to chew their bedding. We are not responsible for any toys, blankets or beds that are chewed-up.
Can I bring my dog's own toys?
A best buddy or a favorite chew toy is always a good idea. Please bring toys appropriate for your pet's size and level of destructiveness. If your pet chews apart a toy, we will remove it for safety. All toys are inventoried upon admission and discharge, so a ton of toys can lengthen the drop-off/pick-up process.

"FEEDING" QUESTIONS
What are my animals fed?
We provide Science Diet Sensitive Stomach/Sensitive Skin dry dog and cat food. We feed an appropriate amount based on your pet's size. Your pet can be fed once or twice a day, or we can leave food out all day. Fresh water is always available.
Can I bring my own food?
Of course! Any non-canned food from home must be pre-portioned, and individually bagged. The bags should be labeled, "Monday 6a," "Monday 6p," etc.
If the food you are bringing requires refrigeration, and your pet will be staying with us for more then 3 days, please bring the rest frozen.
We strongly recommend bringing an extra day or two of food in-case your return is delayed. If your return is delayed and you have not left enough extra meals, we will feed your pet Science Diet Sensitive Stomach/Sensitive Skin dry dog or cat food as appropriate.
Although most pets are quite content when boarding with us, we can't make them eat all of their food. Canned or refrigerated food will be thrown out if uneaten after two hours. Uneaten dry kibble will be thrown out prior to the next feeding.
Should I bring my own bowls?
If your pet uses a raised bowl rack, or special bowls designed to slow eating speed, please bring your own. Generally though it's not necessary. We have various sizes of stainless steel food and water bowls that are cleaned and sanitized after each meal. Please no ceramic, crockery or otherwise breakable bowls.

"MEDICATION" QUESTIONS
How are medications administered?
Our Pet-Care Assistants give all the oral medications. If you bring some canned food or other similar pilling treat, we will try to just feed your pet the medication. If they will not eat the medicated treat immediately, we will "pill them." The Technician and Technician Assistants give insulin, SQ fluids or other injections.
How are medications charged for?
Each medication is charged for, each time it is given. So if your pet is on two heart medications, 3 times day- that's 6 charges each day. Yes, this can add up, but sicker animals, on multiple medications, require more attention and care. Vitamins and joint supplements are charged the same as other medications.
Why can't I just include the medication in with his food?
Medication degrades, dissolves and can be ineffective if sitting in food (even a bag of dry food.) Animals don't always eat all their food or at the time their medication is to be given. We can't tell if your pet received all its medication or when.
How should I leave instructions for medications?
Do not pre-cut the pills. (By law, each pill has a code to help with identification.)
Each medication needs to be in its own (preferably original) container.
If current directions are different from the pill-vial label, let us know.
Each medication needs to be labeled: Drug (ex: methimazole, phenobarbital), Strength (ex: 50mg; 0.4mg) and Quantity (ex: 20 pills).
Each medication should have instructions such as: "1&1/2 tablets twice a day (5a & 5p)"--this is a much different instruction than, "3 tablets once a day at 5a." Yes, either way the pet would get 3 tablets in 24hrs, but how & when medication is given is critical too.

"EXOTICS" QUESTIONS
What species will you board?
We readily board "pocket-pets" such as Guinea pigs, Hamsters, Gerbils, Ferrets, Chinchillas and Hedgehogs.
Depending on size, species and housing requirements we can board some birds and reptiles.
We do not board rabbits, primates or poisonous animals.
What do I need to bring?
You need to provide escape-proof housing, bedding substrate, food, special lighting or heating (if needed.)
Most exotics will be housed in our cat ward (quieter, draft-free) or in our Treatment Area (more electrical outlets.)

"DROPPING-OFF" QUESTIONS
How early can I drop-off?
Boarding admission starts at 10am. If you have an early flight, etc, we suggest dropping-off the night before.
I board frequently, why do I have to fill out paperwork every time?
There can be many variations between boarding stays, ex) time of drop-off, if the pet received meds before it arrived, medications may be different, personal effects may be different, emergency contact persons may have changed, etc. You can expedite this by having medications and food clearly organized and labeled, limit the quantity of your pet's personal effects, and have contact info readily at hand.
I'm in a hurry!!!!
Your pet's care and well-being is our highest priority. Badgering and rushing the staff only leads to mistakes. This is a full-service hospital and sometimes medical cases take precedence. Dropping-off the night before or having everything well organized can decrease some time-crunch stress.
Can I bring my pet to the boarding area?
Absolutely! Remember though, pets feed off our emotions and long, drawn-out goodbyes are harder on your pet too. Like kids going to summer camp, most pets happily set-off on their boarding adventure and quickly settle into their new routine. Except for a few minutes when new-comers arrive, or at meal-time, the boarding area is generally quiet because the dogs are very content.

"PICKING-UP" QUESTIONS
How late can I pick-up?
The last boarding pick-up is at 5:40p. Please be respectful of our staff, who have already put in a full day. It takes some time to gather all your pet's effects, finish paperwork and present your pet back to you. The overall business of the hospital needs to be completed by 6pm.
My arrival has been delayed? Now what?
Please notify us as soon as you know. If we can keep your pet in its assigned run, we will. If all luxury runs are filled, we'll move your pet to our "Auxillary" ward (with large, glass-door, non-decorated runs.) Additional charges will be applied at standard rates.
I need someone else to pick-up my pet. What do I do?
If you know in advance that someone else will picking up your pet, please let us know their name. You can either pay the bill over the phone via credit card or give them some other method to pay the balance.
If there is a last minute change, call us. If the circumstances seem odd, we'll likely call you direct to confirm permission to discharge your pet.

"BOARDING SCHEDULE" QUESTIONS
Are there days or times I can't Drop-Off or Pick-up?
The hospital is closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. We close early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
The hospital is closed every Wednesday from 12:30-3:30 for continuing education and other hospital management meetings.
What if there's a natural disaster?
The Blizzard of Dec 26, 2010 and Hurricane Sandy as well as other severe storms unfortunately impacted hospital operations. Someone will always be at the hospital caring for the boarders and patients. That person may not be able to answer the phone or discharge boarders. If phone lines are operational, check for updated messages. With newer technology, we may be able to supply updates via our web-site, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

"ADDITONAL CARE" QUESTIONS
Can I schedule "a bath" for my pet prior to "Pick-Up?"
We can schedule Grooming Services for your pet while boarding. A grooming form needs to be completed at the time of Drop-off. The groomer is often fully scheduled weeks in advance, so it is strongly recommended that you schedule Grooming at the same time that you make your Boarding reservations.
Can I have other services done?
If your pet needs a medical service such as nail trim, anal sac expression, Drug-Monitoring or other blood-work, these can be scheduled with a technician. If you have a specific health concern, have the Receptionist or Pet-Care Assistant schedule a Veterinarian exam. Your general Boarding paperwork will have a section on how you want the Doctor to proceed after the exam.
What if my pet becomes ill while boarding?
Every effort will be made to contact you regarding any changes to your pet's health and obtain permission to diagnose and treat appropriately. In a dire emergency or in the event we cannot contact you, we will administer appropriate stabilization therapy as necessary. You are financially responsible for these treatments.
