The Veterinarians
MEREDITH L. WELTNER-SHARIN VMD
Dr. Sharin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an undergraduate degree in Biology in 1993 and then also graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. After graduation she completed a year-long surgical-medical internship in Delaware. Dr. Sharin practiced in southern NJ for almost a decade before opening Barnside Veterinary Hospital in 2008. It has always been her desire to create and run a practice that delivered the highest caliber of patient care and owner education. Dr. Sharin lives in Belmar with her husband Michael. Together they enjoy sailing, skiing and spending time with their children, Jenna and Michael, and their pets. |
JESSICA A. PALMISANO DVM
Dr.Jessica Palmisano received her bachelor's degree from Providence College and then graduated from St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine (including Clinical training at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine) in 2012. A native of Brick, NJ, Dr. Palmisano enjoys the beach, traveling and spending time with her French bulldog, Louie. Dr. Palmisano has appointment hours on Mondays, Thursdays and every-other Saturday and Sunday. |
JAMES N. McKINLEY DVM, MS, DABVP-Avian
Dr. James McKinley received his bachelor's degree from Rider, his master's from Rutgers and then graduated from veterinary school at the University of Parma, Italy. He recently retired after 29 years of ownership of Amwell Bird Hospital in Hillsborough, NJ. In his spare time, Dr. McKinley has a second career as a high-school basketball official. He enjoys riding his Goldwing motorcycle and cultivates coral for the aquarium trade. Dr. McKinley tends to all manner of medical and surgical problems and health maintenance for all species of birds. He has appointment hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. |
The Technicians
SANDY D.
Sandy has been at Barnside Veterinary Hospital since we opened! With 25 years experience working as a Technician in veterinary hospitals, we're excited that Sandy has taken on a Management position at Barnside. Don't worry, Sandy will always be available to give your baby and extra kiss or cookie! Sandy has an Associate's degree from Brookdale and a Bachelor's degree from Georgian Court. Sandy's current menagerie includes a coonhound, Honeybugs; 3 cats, Hermie, Nermal and Laramie and gerbil Blueberry. She enjoys playing softball, rooting for the Mets and Jets and spending time with family and friends. |
The Technician Assistants
MICHELE M.
Michele has been at Barnside since August 2016. She has a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. As a substitute teacher and a lifeguard, Michele worked extensively with two-legged children before switching to 4-legged ones. A former Women's Division I bowler, Michele enjoys wake-boarding, and walking her dogs: Mac, Coffee and Duke. When not engaging in sports, she enjoys spending time with her family. |
HEATHER H.
Heather started at Barnside as a Pet-Care Assistant, but is now a Technician Assistant. She recently started classes at St. Petersburg College for her Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology. In her spare time she, enjoys spending time with family and boyfriend and taking her two dogs, TJ and Booka, for walks. |
KELLY R.
Kelly has been at Barnside for almost a year. She is a graduate from Virginia Tech where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences and minored in Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship. In her free time, Kelly enjoys running by the beach, taking hikes with her dog and relaxing but the pool with her family. Soon Kelly will be headed off to Veterinary School! But maybe you'll see her during school breaks! |
RYAN S.
Ryan has been at Barnside for almost a year. He is a graduate from James Madison University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree. An early go getter, Ryan started his own dog-walking service at the age of 8. He likes to spend his free time at the beach, playing sports and having out with friends and his siblings. Soon Ryan will be headed off to Veterinary School! But maybe you'll see him during school breaks! |
LUZ I.
Luz started July 2017 at Barnside as a Pet-Care Assistant, but is now training to be a Technician Assistant. She worked at Wendy's for 6 years through high school and beyond as she earned her Veterinary Assistant Certificate through BCIT. Luz will be working toward her Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology, taking classes online as she relocates with her husband who is in the US Marines. We wish her luck and hope she'll return to Barnside! |
Receptionists
KRISTI M.
Kristi joined Barnside in September 2017. She graduated from Brookdale Community College with an Associate's degree in Business and then graduated from Centenary University with a Bachelor's in Equine Studies. An accomplished equestrienne, Kristi also enjoys spending time with her pet rabbits, Emmy and Eli. |
COLBY R.
Colby joined Barnside in December 2017. She graduated from Brookdale Community College with an Associate's degree in Business Management. Colby was fortunate to grow up on a small horse farm where she was surrounded by a menagerie from horses and donkeys to geese and goats. An accomplished equestrienne, Colby has been riding Hunter/Jumper since she was 8 years old. Aside from her horses, she enjoys spending time with her Jack Russell Terrier, Rosie. |

ROBYN L.
Robyn started at Barnside in January 2018. She received her Associate's degree in Science from Ocean County College. Robyn earned a certificate from the Stratford Career Institution for Veterinary Assistant and is currently taking online classes through PennFoster toward her Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology. Robyn also works nights as a caregiver at The Open Door, a facility for persons with developmental and mental health challenges. When she's not working or studying, Robyn enjoys spending time with her poodles: Nala and Dasiey. |
VICKI D.
Vicki started at Barnside in February 2018. After spending several years working at dog hotel facilities, overseeing the care hundreds of dogs at a time, Vicki is now able to provide one-on-one care to Barnside's patients. Vicki grew up on a large farm in Pennsylvania and is looking to become a Veterinary Assistant. |

Toni started at Barnside in February 2018. She has many years working in human medical offices, but was happiest during her time a the Humane Society and doggy-daycare facilities. Toni enjoys spending time with her cat Wayne and mixed-breed dog, Reese. |
